The Republican Party of Florida is spotlighting David Jolly's opposition to Gov. Ron DeSanits while warning voters his election will ruin his legacy of accomplishments in a new campaign ad released this week.
The ad, titled "David Jolly Would Undo What Ron DeSantis Built," was shared on the Florida GOP's social media.
It begins with DeSantis touting his leadership as governor, saying, "There's not been a state in this country that has more thoroughly defeated the political left than we have over these last seven and a half years." Gov. DeSantis also warns Republican not to take the "foot off the gas" once his term is up.Â
Gov. DeSantis was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. His current term ends on Jan. 5, 2027.Â
The ad shows Jolly not being much of a fan.
"I don't think Ron DeSantis is the smartest person in the state," Jolly says. He also calls Gov. DeSantis "a uniquely unlikable person on the campaign trail" and claims he lied about his COVID record.Â
It juts in with DeSantis cautioning against the "pathologies of the political left." The governor often touted his COVID-19 record, arguing Florida got it right on lockdowns to Democrat state positions.
"I don't support Ron DeSantis or his agenda, and I do think Ron DeSantis's agenda is dangerous," Jolly says, while also accusing the governor of wanting to run for president in 2028 to represent "white America."
The ad closes by DeSantis warning of the left's threat while urging Republicans to vote.
Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power defended the governor's record, writing on social media, "Ron DeSantis turned Florida into the free state of America. He stood up to Fauci, kept Florida open, cut taxes, and fixed our schools and universities, and families from across the country moved here because of it."
“David Jolly has spent years attacking every bit of that record on cable news, and now he wants the keys to the Governor’s Mansion so he can undo it," Power continued. "Florida Republicans know what’s at stake. Early voting starts today [Oct. 19], and we will turn out to keep Florida free by electing Byron Donalds."
Rep. Donalds (R-FL) is hoping to succeed DeSantis and become the GOP's 5th straight governor on Nov. 3. DeSantis endorsed Donalds in September.
Jolly is looking to become the first elected Democrat since 1994.
"Ultimately, this will cause our country to fail if they are able to be successful," DeSantis says.Â
