The University of Florida (UF) shared it has been ranked the No. 4 public university in the United States on TIME magazine's inaugural "America's Best Colleges of 2026-2027" list.
“This ranking confirms what our students experience every day: a world-class learning environment, faculty and programs that prepare them to succeed after graduation, and a university that the best and brightest actively seek out,” UF Board of Trustees Chair Mori Hosseini said in a statement. “The University of Florida stands alongside the nation's most elite institutions because of the outcomes we deliver for our students.”
The America's Best Colleges of 2026-2027 by TIME, in partnership with Statista, evaluates universities on student education including outcomes and overall experience. TIME also attributed the rankings to interest among students on a degree's return on investment as college tuitions remain high across the country, along with a tight job market.
UF received a final score of 89.14.
The University of Michigan ranked No. 1 among public universities, followed by the University of Virginia in second place and the University of California - Berkley in third place.
“University of Florida students, faculty and staff should be proud of this ranking,” said UF President Stuart Bell. “It’s a reflection of the hard work they all put in every day to make this one of the country’s leading universities, and people are taking notice.”
UF placed No. 16 overall among public and private schools. Florida State (No. 53), Florida International University (No. 62), University of South Florida (No. 140), University of North Florida (No. 150), University of Miami (165), University of Central Florida (No. 195), Florida Atlantic University (No. 294), Barry University (No. 355), Jacksonville University (No. 368), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (No. 378), and Everglades University (No. 414) were also ranked among public/private overall.
Stanford University (CA) was ranked the top school (public/private) in America, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at No. 2 and Harvey Mudd College at No. 3.
