Former Florida House Representative and Republican Challenger for Florida’s 14th Congressional District (FL CD 14) Kevin Steele has fired back against opponent Mike Beltran’s recent string of accusations, arguing that the runner-up cannot be trusted.
“He can run all the ads he wants. He can’t run from his own voter registration scandal showing him registered to vote in two states at once,” Steele wrote on X, accusing Beltran of being registered to vote in both Florida and New York City (NYC).
“I registered Republican in Florida the day I turned 18, and I've never voted any other way,” Steele affirmed.
Steele Alleges Beltran Was Pro-Biden and Against DeSantis
Steele additionally accused his former Florida House colleague of voting against Gov. Ron DeSantis' priority funding efforts and of siding with former President Joe Biden on several policy measures.
“Beltran sided with Biden against budget cuts, lower taxes and insurance relief,” as well as obstructing wage increases for teachers and law enforcement, Steele alleged. “Don’t be fooled by New York Mike."
Beltran's Voter Registration Scandal
The former Pasco County representative’s accusations stem from a report by investigative journalist Laura Loomer alleging that New York-born candidate Mike Beltran has been a registered voter in NYC since 2002. Loomer also accused Beltran of voting in the 2025 New York City mayoral race.
“Mike Beltran’s voting record should make it clear: he has not earned the right to represent Florida in the United States Congress,” Loomer claimed.
The accusations, however, were disproven as “purported documents appear to show that the NYC Board of Elections has amended its record to reflect that Beltran’s father, not Beltran, voted in the November 2025 election,” per Loomered.
Beltran also previously affirmed that he has not cast a vote in New York since he moved to the Sunshine State and registered to vote in Florida in 2010.
Steele's Resignation Over Voter Registration
Steele’s accusations appear contradictory, as the former House District 55 representative resigned after reports revealed he cast his primary vote outside of his district while in office – a move that is illegal in Florida.
