The Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida has endorsed the team of David Jolly and Gwen Graham for Florida Governor and Florida Lieutenant Governor.
In a statement posted on social media, the caucus, which seeks to engage Hispanic communities with the values of the Democratic Party, argued that the duo will “offer Florida the experienced, principled leadership” that Florida requires “at this critical moment.”
“Our endorsement followed a thorough and deliberative process,” the caucus announced. “We met with the candidates, reviewed their records, evaluated their vision for Florida, and carefully considered who is best prepared not only to win in November, but to govern effectively on behalf of all Floridians."
Jolly, a former Republican Representative who served Florida's 13th congressional district, and Gwen Graham, who formerly served Florida's 2nd congressional district, are vying to turn Florida blue after eight years of Governor Ron DeSantis.
Notably, Jolly is the second Republican turned Democrat who is seeking to take the governor's mansion after Charlie Crist's failed bid in 2022.
“David Jolly has demonstrated the courage to put principles above politics,” the caucus announced in their endorsement, adding that “Gwen Graham brings a distinguished record of public service, a deep commitment to public education, and a lifelong dedication to expanding opportunities for working families.”
"Together, David Jolly and Gwen Graham have presented a vision focused on strengthening public education, making Florida more affordable, protecting fundamental freedoms, restoring integrity to the state government, and ensuring every Floridian is treated with dignity and respect. Their campaign is rooted in solutions rather than divisions, and in service rather than political spectacle," the caucus affirmed.
After Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings suspended his candidacy due to a prostate cancer diagnosis, Jolly is seen as the likely nominee, but the Republican nomination is still up for grabs.
Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, former speaker of the Florida house Paul Renner, businessman James Fishback, and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) are all vying for the nomination, with the latter leading the group in the latest polls.
