Florida's Back to School Sales Tax Holiday giving parents, teachers, and students relief on backpacks, school supplies, computers, and other items begins today with the new school year less than a month away.
The tax holiday runs from July 20 to Aug. 20. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the latest tax holiday approved by the Florida Legislature as part of its Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget back in June. Florida also had a holiday last year.
Items exempt from Florida's sales tax during the period are below.
Personal computers $1,500 or less, including:
- Calculators
- Desktops
- Electronic book readers
- Handhelds
- Laptops
- Tablets
- Tower computers
Personal computer-related accessories, including:
- Keyboards
- Mice
- Modems
- Monitors
- Nonrecreational software
- Other peripheral devices
- Personal digital assistants
- Routers
Wallets and bags $100 or less per item, including:
- Backpacks
- Diaper bags
- Fanny packs
- Handbags
School supplies $50 or less per item, including:
- Binders
- Cellophane tape
- Compasses
- Composition books
- Computer disks
- Construction paper
- Crayons
- Erasers
- Folders
- Glue or paste
- Legal pads
- Lunch boxes
- Markers
- Notebooks
- Notebook filler paper
- Pencils
- Pens
- Poster board
- Poster paper
- Protractors
- Rulers
- Scissors
- Staplers and staples used to secure paper products
Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles $30 or less, including:
- Flashcards or other learning cards
- Interactive or electronic books and toys intended to teach reading or math skills
- Matching or other memory games
- Puzzle books and search-and-find books
- Stacking or nesting blocks or sets
Clothing and footwear $100 or less per item, including:
- Shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, and other apparel
- Shoes, boots, sandals, and other footwear
- Accessories such as belts, hats, gloves, and scarves
Other Florida lawmakers, including Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), Sen. Tracie Davis (D-Jacksonville), and Rep. Berny Jacques (R-Seminole) shared the holiday's beginning on social media.
