President Donald Trump is waking up this morning to the news that another Republican congressional hopeful is planning to honor him by renaming something after him, if they win their 2026 midterm election race. Ola Hawatmeh, who is running in the hotly contested Republican primary race in Florida's 19th congressional district, just sent out an announcement that if she wins the primary contest and the subsequent general election later this year, she would file legislation to rename the I-75 southern corridor in Southwest Florida the "President Donald J. Trump Superhighway."
Hawtmeh, who, like most Republican lawmakers and candidates for public office, is hopeful she will receive President Trump's endorsement in her respective political races. Hawatmeh stated that it was "an easy call" to honor the 45th and 47th President of the United States by vowing to file legislation to rename the highway after him.
“President Donald Trump is the most consequential and America First president in U.S. history. Honoring his accomplishments, accomplishments that have saved American lives, protected our God-given liberties and freedoms, and helped us continue to live our American dream, is an easy call. I am looking forward to hitting the road with him to 'Make America Great Again,” said Ola Hawatmeh.
State Rep. Meg 'MAGA Meg' Weinberger, along with conservative journalist Laura Loomer, Hawatmeh, and President Trump, unveiled "President Donald J. Trump Boulevard" during a ceremony at Mar-a-Lago last month.
Rep. Weinbeger, who has endorsed Hawatmeh, filed a legislative measure to rename a four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard between Kirk Road and South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach County after the current and former president.
The stretch of highway in question passes through the heart of the 19th District, spanning 42 miles through Fort Myers and Naples, and into Lee County.
Florida's primary election is August 18.
The candidates in the Republican primary race in FL CD 19 are: Fmr. U.S. Reps. Madison Cawthorn and Chris Collins, Catalina Lauf, John Fratto, Stephen Elliot, Jim Schwartzel, Dylan Modarelli, Jim Oberweis, Mike Pedersen, Louis Shenker, Ola Hawatmeh, and John Strand.
Democratic candidates include Martin Kane, Victor Arias, and Howard Sapp.
