State Representative Tom Fabricio (R-110) has introduced legislation that would eliminate the requirement to place a yellow decal on the license plates of Florida-registered vehicles each year.
As Florida residents know, renewing your car's registration every year involves going to the DMV to pick up the paperwork or receiving it by mail and then attaching the yellow sticker to the upper right-hand corner of your license plate.
According to Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez, the yellow sticker's continued existence is due to special interest groups that want to "keep the broken system exactly as it is because they profit from delay, confusion, and bureaucracy. They want government to stay slow, outdated, and frustrating for the people who rely on it."
Fernandez renewed his vow to get rid of this system and fully implement an electronic-only system that "saves money, reduces fraud, and puts our community first. Our commitment is with every resident, and we will continue putting each one of them first. We must keep cutting bureaucracy and making life easier for our residents every single day."
In response to Fernandez's comments on social media, State Rep. Fabricio announced, "I filed HB 841 to cut red tape and eliminate the yellow decals on Florida license tags. Law enforcement supports this, so why the resistance? Simple…well-paid special interests profit from bureaucracy and control. I work for Florida residents, so I'm fighting these special interests! Floridians deserve less bureaucracy, not more. Period."
Fabricio had previously been appointed as Vice Chair to the Florida House Ways and Means Committee in December 2024, saying, "Grateful to Speaker Daniel Perez for appointing me as Vice Chair of the Ways & Means Committee and Alternating Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Collective Bargaining, along with other key committees. Honored to serve Florida and work on policies that make a difference!"
