The Republican Party of Florida slammed Democrat Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville) as a "far-left crazy person" after announcing her run for U.S. Senate this week, calling her bid "doomed" out of the gate.

Through a release, the GOP critcized Rep. Nixon for a history of radical stunts, divisive extremism, and threats to Florida's public education, security, and economic freedom as she looks to win the Democratic nomination.

“Angie Nixon’s radical agenda and toxic divisiveness are a gift to Republicans,” Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power said. “Floridians reject this extremism. Sen. Ashley Moody will continue championing safe borders, strong schools, low taxes, and family values.”

The GOP's criticism of Nixon includes calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war weeks after the Oct. 7 attacks, in which Hamas murdered over 1,200 Israeli civilians and took 251 hostages from the Jewish State.

They also criticized her for opposing school choice and parental rights, supporting gender-affirming care for minors without parental consent, labeling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities as “modern-day concentration camps" while advocating for legislation weakening their enforcement, and favoring higher taxes on Florida businesses.

In addition, the GOP mentioned Rep. Nixon calling herself Gov. Ron DeSantis's "biggest pain in the ass" during a "No King's" rally in Tampa in October 2025.

Nixon announced her bid through a campaign advertisement on Thursday. The Jacksonville native, who has served the area in the House since 2022, joins a Democratic field along with Jennifer Jenkins, a former Brevard County School Board member, who announced her run last September.

The Democratic Senate primary is Aug. 18.

Waiting for Nixon or Jenkins is likely to be Sen. Ashley Moody (R), who was appointed to the Senate by Gov. Ron DeSantis in January 2025. Moody previously served as Florida Attorney General under DeSantis from 2019 to 2025.

According to a University of North Florida poll from October, Moody was leading Jenkins by 11 points in the race before Nixon announced.
