Republican candidate Michael Carbonara announced that he has raised $1.7 Million in campaign funds in his pursuit to unseat Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) in Florida’s hotly contested 25th Congressional District.
"For far too long, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been a fixture in Washington, and she's done nothing to help working families struggling with inflation, high taxes, and needless bureaucracy, while pushing policies that harm Florida families and take away their freedoms,” Carbonara said in a press release. “Her approach to government is rooted in Washington bureaucracy and big spending, not in accountability or affordability."
According to a report by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Carbonara’s $1.7 Million surpasses Wasserman Schultz’s $1.6 Million in campaign funds.
Carbonara has raised quadruple the amount of money that any previous candidate did when running against Schultz in 2024.
The Republican's campaign has also been able to leverage the power of social media, reaching and communicating with voters through platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok.
Florida’s 25th Congressional District is one of the few districts in South Florida to have any Democratic representation, with the other districts in Miami-Dade and some parts of Broward County being represented by Republican politicians.
Previously, Carbonara has directed verbal jabs at Wasserman Schultz, calling her a “career politician” and calling on voters to “retire career politicians and let hard work and innovation make the government work for you."
Precise details on Carbonara’s fundraising sources are not yet publicly available. However, the campaign said it did invest a portion of funds accrued through a dedicated public blockchain wallet with bitcoin personally raised by Carbonara.
He has stressed a hunger for change as he challenges the longest-serving Democrat in Florida’s congressional delegation.
“District 25 deserves a leader who will fight for Florida and restore Floridians’ freedom,” he said. “I’m in the business of breaking down barriers, solving problems, and creating jobs, and I’ll do the same for our community in Congress.”
