Days after Florida Governor Rick Scott released his proposition to stop further attacks like the Parkland shooting from happening, Florida Democratic Senator Bill Nelson is fighting back against the Governor's claims that Nelson has done nothing when it comes to gun safety. Although the Senator did like some provisions in the Governor's plan of action, he did feel it was largely inadequate and that the Governor wasn't really listening to what Floridians wanted as a resolution to prevent further shootings.
In response, Senator Nelson said that he has "voted for and sponsored every major piece of legislation, including the comprehensive background checks, as well as getting the assault rifles off the streets.” In addition, he explained that he has an F rating when “too many people have a desire to have an A+ rating from the NRA.”
This back and forth between Scott and Nelson brings up questions about how a future senate race between the two would play out, and both are actively involved in changing the gun control narrative in Florida to make it a safer state.
Both politicians do agree on one point though, which is that arming teachers is not the correct way to move forward.
