In recent appearance on Fox Business's Bottom Line, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) discussed how President Donald Trump could end the Russia-Ukraine War, expressing optimism in his ability to do so.
The White House recently issued new sanctions on Russia, targeting its two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, evidently out of frustration with the Kremlin's stubbornness in accepting a ceasefire.
"President Trump is very fair," Rep. Luna commented. "Part of the reason why he has been so effective at these other negotiations, the eight other previously that resulted in peace deals, is ultimately because of the fact that he is very firm, very respected, but also, he knows how to cut a deal."
Trump denied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy access to Tomahawk missiles, which Rep. Luna said only hampers the effort to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the table.
"I have faith that the President will indeed secure a peace deal, and I think that this is all part of that," the Florida Congresswoman continued. "Remember, President Trump has also vocally said that if Russia does agree to a peace deal that he would consider trade. I think trade could be a great option for Russia and an incentive for them to end the war in Ukraine."
Luna was questioned over whether Trump's Rosneft and Lukoil sanctions would be enough to persuade the Russians, which she could not answer with certainty.
However, she did estimate "that it definitely does send a message, and I think that ultimately, it does also have negative impacts as well. And so I think that the President knows what he is doing, but again, the fact that the President is not going to send missiles is actually a good thing, because we do not want to escalate the war."
