Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) shared a post on social media, gathering with the families of the hostages who were taken during the October 7 attacks as she celebrated their return home.
“Two years ago, days after the Hamas attack on October 7th, I joined Rolling Thunder, [Josh Levy], and constituents who were organizing and sending badly needed supplies to Israel," the Florida lawmaker recounted on social media. "They gave me a NOVA Festival wristband from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum that we swore we would not take off until all the hostages were home. We came together again to cut off those bracelets together, now that the last living hostages are finally reunited with their families. It was a bittersweet moment.”
Wasserman Schultz, however, notably did not reference President Donald Trump's peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
The Congresswoman had previously thanked Trump, along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and others when news of the hostages’ release broke.
Wasserman Schultz has further called on Hamas to release the remainder of the deceased hostages who are still in Palestinian custody.
“Hamas must now return the remains of all of the deceased so they can be properly honored by their loved ones. We pledged to continue the fight for their return. Am Yisrael Chai,” the Congresswoman urged.
Other Democrat lawmakers, such as Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), have praised Trump for the peace deal and have supported the President’s actions regarding Israel and the Middle East.
“A weight has been lifted off the world as the remaining hostages are released. Amazing day for the families, and for [President Donald Trump] and all the negotiators who made this day possible. Let’s honor their return by staying committed to lasting peace so another October 7 never happens again,” Moskowitz expressed on social media.
