Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) slammed the Republican Party this week, claiming their “refusal to negotiate” is what is keeping the government from reopening.

“You have to work today to pay your bills, yet House Republicans took another week of vacation," Schultz expressed on social media. "Republicans refuse to negotiate a deal to open our government and cut healthcare costs while troops and essential public servants work without pay. Democrats are ready to work.”

The Congresswoman appeared on an NBC News interview, where she asserted that the Democratic Party is adamant about coming to a conclusion and working out a deal to slash healthcare costs.

“Democrats were in the House, and the entire Senate was in Washington this week. The last two days of the fiscal year. Ready to work, ready to negotiate," she explained. "And Republicans in the House were nowhere to be found. They, the speaker, canceled the session days on Monday and Tuesday.”

“They were a wall. And we were there. And we should have been working up until the last minute," she added. "But House Republicans refused to come back to the table, and look, this is a shutdown that they own. They control all of Washington.”

In response to the Democrats' outrage, Florida Republicans took to social media to defend their actions and to pin the blame on Democrats for the government shutdown.

“Every single Member of Congress should be withholding their pay during this shutdown - especially the ones who are holding the government hostage,” Florida Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R) wrote on social media.

Florida Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R) shared a scathing remark on X, accusing the Democratic Party of being the party responsible for the shutdown. He added that he personally supported budgets he opposed to prevent a government shutdown.

“Let’s be clear: the failed Democrat Party leadership is FULLY responsible for this shutdown," he accused on social media. "I’ve always OPPOSED government shutdowns. Even during the Biden Admin, I voted for budgets that I DID NOT agree with because shutting the government down SHOULDN'T EVER be an option!”
