Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) expressed uncertainty about the "Big Beautiful Bill" passing the Senate by July 4th, but remained insistent that it pass in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co.
Host Stuart Varney began by noting that former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk remains opposed to the Big Beautiful Bill, calling the latest revisions "Utterly insane and destructive" in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) despite reconciling with President Donald Trump.
Nevertheless, Varney asked Rep. Gimenez if the bill would pass the Senate by the Fourth of July, which he doubted.
"It all depends on what comes out of the Senate," Rep. Gimenez added. "Look, we in the House took over a year to craft this bill so that we could thread that needle in between our conference, the far right, and some of the more moderate ones. It took us a long time to do that."
The Florida Congressman further hoped the Senate would not modify the Big Beautiful Bill too much, which would increase the odds it passes by the 4th.
Still, he reiterated that "What is more important is that we pass the bill and that we are not responsible for the largest tax increase in American history."
"And I completely disagree with Elon Musk," Gimenez concluded. "If we somehow do not pass this bill, then you get this huge tax increase that is going to cost millions of jobs. That is going to cost Americans prosperity and the ability to work, so I disagree with Elon Musk."
Gimenez's colleague, Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL), recently wrote an open letter to the people of Florida urging Congress to pass the Big Beautiful Bill, saying, "This is a pivotal time in our state as the U.S. Congress debates passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to grow our economy, create jobs, and prevent the largest tax hike in American history."
