Federal investigators have charged a Hamas military leader and two others in connection with raising more than $1.7 million for the terrorist organization Hamas in an international fundraising campaign, including a $50,000 contribution from a Florida man.

Prosecutors Charge Hamas Leader

According to a recently unsealed federal indictment, prosecutors charged Saleem Alzaq, a 45-year-old man from Gaza, with one count of conspiring to provide material support to Hamas; conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act; money laundering; and conspiring to defraud the U.S.

In the court documents, prosecutors allege that Alzaq is a member of the terrorist group, claiming that he’s been a Hamas member since at least 2017.

New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch corroborated the information, revealing that Alzaq is a leader in the group’s military arm.

“Our intelligence analysts uncovered this international finance network and built the case that exposed more than $2 million being funneled to Hamas,” New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

Prosecutors allege Alzaq ran an international fundraising campaign across the U.S. and France, with at least $626,000 coming from U.S.-based donors.

Two Brothers Charged in Connection

Additionally, two brothers, Abdel Adhami and Omar Adhami, were arrested on charges of material support to a foreign terrorist and wire fraud, with Abdel also receiving a money laundering charge.

Prosecutors allege that between Jan. 2020 and Dec. 2025, all three individuals raised funds under the guise of providing necessities to Palestinians in Gaza.

The two brothers reportedly issued social media posts displaying Hamas propaganda and soliciting donations for “the poor and orphans in Gaza.”

In his criminal complaint, investigators allege that Omar sent Alzaq roughly $3,000.

Investigators identified Abdel as the source of nearly $82,000 funneled to Alzaq after an NYPD online covert officer contacted the Hamas leader.

Court documents reveal that Alzaq unwittingly referred the undercover officer to Abdel.
