There is a new day for Miami Republicans as members of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County have voted in the youngest chairman in the group’s history. Kevin Cooper, an attorney from Aventura, served as vice chairman under former Chairman, Rep. Alex Rizo.
There is a new sheriff in town and he doesn’t dip or chew beef jerky, he eats Halal bread.
Cooper, who is an ardent supporter of Israel and President-elect Donald Trump, is credited for helping galvanize Republican voter outreach efforts in the state’s most populous county.
In speaking to The Floridian shortly after his win, Cooper spoke about expanding the party both at the county and state levels.
Miami GOP elects youngest chairman ever, signals major modernization as party celebrates major win,” said Cooper. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead this incredible organization. Miami-Dade County is going through a major political alignment, and we have the task of reaching out to new people and expanding our party.”
Over the past couple of years, Trump loyalists like Cooper wanted to invite former President Trump to speak at their annual Lincoln Day Dinner, but Chairman Rizo, who endorsed Governor Ron DeSantis for President over President Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary race, had the governor address the Republican faithful.
Cooper says that he will take a very pro-active approach to expanding the local political party and in fundraising, not to mention making a direct ask about getting President Trump to speak at next year’s fundraising gala.
Brian Hughes, who is transitioning into the White House praised Cooper's win. Brandon Ludwig, who heads the Florida Young Republicans, also extended his congratulations to Cooper.cooper
I got to work with @kevincooperfl in Miami Dade this election cycle. This is a great choice by the county GOP. Kevin is a smart, new generation leader for an important FL county that is turning more red every day. Congrats, Kevin and thanks for the hard work helping Pres Trump. https://t.co/sqJr0HYjyc
