Every hurricane season, especially when an actual storm threatens Florida, elected politicians become quasi-weathermen and women and begin to post storm preparedness lists and minute-to-minute storm update reports.
You can say that it is their job to do so, or that voters expect them to become their de facto weatherman because of the authority they wield.
As Hurricane Dorian, which is expected to strengthen to Category 3, continues to swirl around in the Caribbean and is expected to make landfall somewhere in Florida, Florida’s elected politicians have now put on their rain jackets and start posting updates.
Everyone from Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, to Democrat Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Alcee Hastings, are making sure that Floridians are made aware of the impending storm.
Oh, and expect your local newsmen to do the same. Will we see POLITICO's rascally political reporter Marc Caputo dawn his rain jacket and "weather" the storm on Miami Beach?
