Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) discussed the Hamas attack in an interview with CNN. The attack, which CNN reports has resulted in at least 900 people killed, has also resulted in Injured and kidnapped Israelis. During the interview, Senator Rubio condemned Hamas, saying that Hamas’ goal is "to eradicate the Jewish State of Israel."
The unprecedented attack shocked the world over the weekend as footage circulated across social media of the horrific acts from Hamas.
As the war continues, Senator Rubio clarified that Hamas has one clear goal in mind.
“What everybody needs to understand is the clear goal of Hamas is not to take back land,” Rubio commented to Jake Tapper, adding that “the goal of Hamas is to eradicate, to eliminate the Jewish State of Israel – that there be no Jewish State of Israel.”
Rubio further commented that it’s difficult to “negotiate” with a group like that and that “there’s an awareness of that in Israel, what they’re dealing with.”
It has also been announced that 11 Americans have been killed during the attack perpetrated by Hamas, and there are other U.S. citizens that are unaccounted. As such, the U.S. government is working with the Israeli government to investigate reports of missing and dead Americans.
The race is on however to help the Israeli government rescue the hundreds of hostages that have been kidnapped and taken to Gaza. As part of that rescue effort, the U.S. has committed to providing Israeli with special operations planning and intelligence support according to a U.S. defense official.
While the support does not mean that the U.S. will be providing U.S. troops on the ground, it does mean that the U.S. will be providing surveillance, intelligence, and reconnaissance as the Israeli government pushes back against Hamas officers.
