This week, the U.S. House of Representatives discussed a Resolution in solidarity with the Cuban people. A number of lawmakers spoke in support of the bill, which included a bipartisan group like Florida Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) and Charlie Crist (D).
Aside from supporting the solidarity resolution, the gubernatorial also lent his support to the RENACER Act, which has received bipartisan support in Florida. Taking to social media, the former governor of Florida championed the bill, arguing that it would hold the Ortega "regime accountable for suppressing the will of the people."
When the RENACER Act was initially introduced, Florida Republican Elvira Salazar criticized the Ortega regime, expressing that the regime in Nicaragua "is harassing, persecuting, and repressing the Nicaraguan people to prevent a free and fair presidential election this November.” As a result of this, the lawmakers joined forces “to increase pressure on the Ortega regime and hold them accountable for their heinous actions.”
On social media, the Florida Democrat echoed in her remarks, writing that "as the socialist Ortega regime moves Nicaragua closer to dictatorship, my thoughts are with the 100k Nicaraguans who call Florida home." Crist added that he was "proud to cosponsor and vote for the RENACER Act, to hold the regime accountable for suppressing the will of the people."

Crist also shared footage of his comments on the House floor in support of a resolution that would assert the United States' solidarity with the Cuban people as they prepare to march on November 15th against the Castro regime. In his comments, Crist affirmed that "socialism and communism have truly failed," and he expressed the United States' support for the Cuban people, noting that "we will not stand by while Cubans suffer and die."
