What Jesus Tundidor Says He'll Fight for in Tallahassee

Property insurance premiums that keep climbing. Rents and grocery bills that outpace paychecks. Seniors on fixed incomes trying to make it work. That's the list Jesus Tundidor says he's running on after officially filing for Florida House District 112, a seat covering parts of Hialeah, Miami Springs, the City of Miami, and Virginia Gardens.

Tundidor isn't new to the district or to those problems. He spent years on the Hialeah City Council, eventually becoming Council President, where he pushed to repeal the city's water and sewer franchise fee, opposed tax increases, and backed adding 100 additional police officers over four years. Outside of politics, he's spent more than a decade as a healthcare executive with a Florida Medicaid managed care plan, work he says shaped how he thinks about affordability and access.

His pitch to District 112 voters centers on three things: lowering taxes, bringing down the cost of living, including property insurance, and protecting seniors. It's a message aimed squarely at families who've watched their budgets get tighter even as the local economy has stayed strong.

"For six years, I've fought for lower taxes, safer streets, protecting our seniors, and a government that respects the people who pay for it," Tundidor said. "That's the fight I'm bringing to Tallahassee for District 112."

The race is also notable for who's already backing him. Rep. Mike Redondo, designated to serve as Speaker of the Florida House for the 2030 term, endorsed Tundidor at launch, saying he'll "be with him every step of the way."

With Rep. Alex Rizo vacating the seat to run for the open Florida Senate District 39 seat, District 112 is shaping up as one of the more closely watched Miami-Dade races heading into next year.
