Democratic Socialist and senatorial nominee Angie Nixon recently attended a meet-and-greet fundraiser in New York City to build support for flipping the Florida seat.
Several groups and people, including members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the Working Families Party, and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), co-hosted and sponsored the event.
Nixon, who is an unapologetic member of DSA, has come out in support of the Socialist agenda, and recently doubled down on her positions aligned with the anti-American political group.
The DSA only backs like-minded candidates that check off all the boxes of their controversial platform, including its support against Israel, its apparent anti-semitic views, and undeniable alienation from communism and socialism.
This is the same group whose supporters held rallies in support of the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack against Israel that left 1,200 innocent civilians dead.
Controversial Figure Linda Sarsour Co-Hosts Event
Additionally, controversial anti-Israel political activist Linda Sarsour was listed as a co-host.
Sarsour has long been labeled as an antisemitic figure by organizations like the Brandeis Center, the Anti-Defamation League, and the South African Jewish Report.
The Palestinian Muslim American activist, has been a long-time supporter of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) efforts against the Israeli government, a movement that the DSA also backs.
The Senate Race is a Battle Against Billionaires, Nixon says
Parroting DSA political talking points, the unrepentant Socialist stated, “Right now the government is working for the greedy billionaires and corrupt corporations, and is working against a lot of regular, everyday people."
Nixon also called out the government’s use of tax dollars to fund the White House ballroom and the conflict in Iran while claiming that it can’t provide affordable healthcare, fully funded public schools, and affordable housing for veterans.
“This isn’t about Democrat vs. Republican vs. Moderate vs. DSA members vs. Working Families Party. This is about the rich trying to wipe out the entire middle class,” Nixon asserted.
Majority of Voters View Democratic Socialists Unfavorably
National polling from outlets like The New York Times/Siena College and Washington Post-Ipsos indicate that around half of all registered voters view socialism and democratic socialist political figures unfavorably (42%-51%).
These polls also show that only around 15%-17% of voters actually back the coalition.
Given the public's view on this group, could Nixon's avid support and alignment with the DSA harm her chances to flip the U.S. Senate seat?
Nixon is set to face off against incumbent U.S. Senator Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) in the General Election on Nov. 3, 2026.
