Florida gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner (R) issued a statement calling for an immediate special session to bring the Medical Freedom Act and AI Bill of Rights to a vote in front of the Florida Legislature.
“The ultimate slap in the face to voters is the dereliction of duty by their elected representatives. Early in the session, Governor DeSantis called on the Legislature to act on two critical issues: medical freedom and protections against the abuses of artificial intelligence," Renner said in a release.
The Florida Senate passed Medical Freedom Act and the AI Bill of Rights during the 2026 legislative session. The Florida House did not pass either bill, led by outgoing Speaker Danny "Daniel" Perez (R-Miami).
“Floridians have waited long enough," Renner continued. "They have a right to make their own medical decisions without unnecessary government interference. And they deserve leaders willing to stand up to Big Tech and establish commonsense guardrails to protect children and families from the abuses of unregulated AI."
Renner is hoping for the next House Speaker, Rep. Sam Garrison (R-Fleming Island), to take up the matters. Garrison was designated the next House Speaker in October 2025.
