Following Dr. Anthony Fauci’s Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing, Florida Attorney General (AG) James Uthmeier announced he is launching an investigation into the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Fauci's lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable. My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It's past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID,” AG Uthmeier wrote on X.
AG Uthmeier’s announcement came just after Gov. Ron DeSantis alluded to the possibility of trying Dr. Fauci in Florida State Court.
DeSantis Suggests Possible Dr. Fauci Trial
Gov. DeSantis had given his two cents on the hearing, urging Congress to find the former health official in contempt for his refusal to answer questions during the proceedings.
“Fauci received a [blanket] presidential pardon, so he has no basis to invoke the Fifth [Amendment] over that conduct. Find him in contempt!” Gov. DeSantis wrote.
Subsequently, a user asked DeSantis whether Dr. Fauci could be tried in either a criminal or civil court in Florida.
“It would require either a state AG or local state attorney to bring a case, which would need to establish violations of state law as well as personal jurisdiction over the defendant,” The Florida Governor replied.
Sen. Moody Calls Out Dr. Fauci's Personal Diary Entries
Gov. DeSantis and Dr. Fauci’s long-running feud was on display during the hearing, as Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) probed the former NIAID director for his criticism of the Governor.
“You called our Governor, Gov. DeSantis, and I’m going to quote this so I get it right, right out of your journals, ‘a total jerk,’ that he is a ‘complete disgrace,’ that he is blocking local authorities from mandating masks in various locations,” Moody affirmed.
“Thank goodness we have people up here that I work with who understand our role, which is to report to our bosses, the people, because they are in charge,” Moody, who served as FL Attorney General during the pandemic, told Dr. Fauci.
