Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) expressed confidence in winning the congressional seat for Florida's 20th District (FL CD 20) despite the challenges she's been facing over her pivot from FL CD 25.
The Weston Democrat told The Floridian that she feels “really good” about her potential in securing the Democratic stronghold, as Florida's primary elections are less than four weeks away.
“The response on the ground in District 20 has been so incredible, and I’ve really just had such a wonderful time talking to people about the things that matter the most to them,” Rep. Schultz said. "Obviously people are struggling with the high cost of everything, so affordability is really clearly the most important issue in addition to fighting the Trump administration, who are dismantling our democracy – and people are really worried about that."
Rep. Schultz also stood firm on her stance to fight President Donald Trump's "corrosive corruption," citing the administration's "illegal tariffs," which have impacted Americans' livelihoods.
Wasserman's Schultz's Challenges For The Seat
The congresswoman’s efforts to remain in office have been met with strong condemnation by the district’s Black Community, as some members, such as the district’s previous representative Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D), claim that she’s contributing “to the erasure” of the Black community’s history.
Despite the backlash, Congresswoman Schultz is “making the case that experience is really important,” as she seeks to combat the main issues affecting her prospective constituents in the district.
Wasserman Schultz is set to face off FL CD 20's very own, Elijah Manley, who has been a prominent civic figure in Broward County for several years.
The veteran congresswoman is also being challenged by former Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick, former Miami legend Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell, and Real Estate Entrepreneur Dale Holness.
Florida's Primary Elections are scheduled for August 18, 2026
