U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it neutralized two Iranian ballistic missiles that targeted American troops stationed in Kuwait.
According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces successfully intercepted the missiles on May 31, 2026, at 11 P.M. ET, additionally confirming that no American personnel were harmed.
“U.S. Central Command remains vigilant and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire,” CENTCOM wrote in a post on X.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry Condemns the Attacks
In a statement on X, Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Iranian attacks, calling them a “direct assault on the security and stability of the State of Kuwait," and a “flagrant violation of the rules of international law,” citing the United Nations (UN) Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
“The Ministry also affirms the State of Kuwait's reservation of its full right to take whatever measures are necessary to preserve its security and defend its territories, holding Iran fully responsible for these heinous aggressions,” the Ministry asserted.
U.S. & Iran Continued Attacks Amid Ceasefire
The missile attacks came after CENTCOM announced that it “conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran, and Qeshm Island” recently.
The "self-defense strikes" on the sites came in response to previous Iranian aggression, which included “the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters,” according to a U.S. Central Command article posted on X.
The U.S. and Iran’s exchanges come amid escalations between Israel and the Lebanese militant proxy Hezbollah, despite their ongoing ceasefire.
According to The Associated Press, Israel has expanded its occupation into Lebanon, while Hezbollah continues to launch drones into Israel.
“The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation.”
