Hollywood – At the recent Republican Party of Florida’s (RPOF) Sunshine State Showdown event, Rep. Randy Fine (R) spoke with The Floridian to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s recently approved ruling on the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program affecting Haitian and Syrian immigrants’ legal protections from humanitarian crises.
The Congressman asserted that TPS is “supposed to be ‘Temporary Protective Service’,” not Protective Status, as the program is called.
“It's not supposed to be permanent, and Democrats just want every illegal who wants to come here to come here and get free stuff forever, but they should have been sent home a long time ago,” Rep. Fine said. “They were brought here because there was an earthquake 16 years ago; it’s time to go home.”
Haiti's Initial and Subsequent TPS Designations
The Congressman’s comments regarding Haitian immigrants' initial designation are true.
Following a massive earthquake that struck the country in Jan. 2010, killing more than 300,000 people and injuring more than 300,000, the Obama administration announced an 18-month designation to provide ample time for recovery efforts.
According to Forum Together, however, due to a cholera outbreak, Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Matthew, another earthquake 11 years after the initial designation, the COVID-19 outbreak, the alleged fraudulent election of President Jovenel Moïse, the country’s withheld elections, lack of a functioning legislature, the breakdown of democratic institutions, the eventual assassination of President Moïse, and the rise of criminal groups and their consolidation of control over the country’s capital in 2021, have all led to designations by multiple administrations – including the first Trump administration – up until 2026.
Despite the struggles the country has faced over the past 16 years, Congressman Fine affirmed that it’s not “America’s Responsibility to take in every single person who wants to come to America,” arguing that “it’s time to go home.”
Fine Blames Democrats, Claims They Want To Destroy America
“By the way, what makes that also impractical is [that] Democrats want to give them all the free stuff they want," Congressman Fine argued, alleging that “these people are both stupid and intent on destroying America, and we're not going to put up with it.”
“So hopefully those Haitians are boarding planes, boarding boats, and headed home,” Fine added.
U.S. Should Get Rid Of TPS, Fine Argued
“And now it goes with the rest of the South American contingent that's here on TPS,” Rep. Fine warned, praising the high court’s ruling.
The Congressman stated that the U.S. should end TPS, arguing that “Democrats proved that it can’t be used responsibly.”
“You know there's nothing more permanent than a temporary government program, and so I think given that we offer this temporary status and then Democrats say, well, once they're here, they can't leave, we should just get rid of it as well," he commented.
Fine Argues TPS Allows For "Paperwork Americans"
Rep. Fine further alleged that the TPS program increases the chances of immigrants having “paperwork American” babies that help prevent them from being removed from the country.
“Then they say well, ‘you can't send mom and dad home because they have… an anchor baby 'paperwork American.’ And so part of the reason we got to get them out is so they don't come up with these excuses.”
“The bottom line is the left just doesn't believe we should have borders, and it's partly because they hate America, it's probably just because they're stupid,” Congressman Fine concluded.
