The Florida Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) announced its endorsement of gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner (R) through a press release this week. The FOP is the largest law enforcement organization in the state with over 25,000 members.
"Paul Renner stands apart as the clear choice for the endorsement of the Florida Fraternal Order of Police. Leadership means understanding that public safety is not negotiable, and Renner has consistently demonstrated that law and order is the foundation upon which every successful community is built," Florida Fraternal Order of Police President Corey Logan said.
In their support, the FOP touted Renner's time as a former state prosecutor, noting his experience with the criminal justice system and understanding of challenges faced by police, prosectors, victims, and communities across the state. Renner started working as a state prosector in 1994.
The FOP also highlighted Renner's work as a state legislator supporting retirement reforms for Special Risk employees, such as law enforcement officers, expanding access to Rapid DNA technology to solve crimes, and helping pass the state's HALO Law, which strengthened protections for law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency responders.
"Paul Renner has proven himself, from day one, to be a dedicated, loyal, and honest leader," Logan added. "He has earned the trust and respect of Florida law enforcement because he has consistently fought for policies that strengthen public safety, protect officers, support victims, and uphold the rule of law. His record speaks for itself and we are proud to endorse him for Florida governor."
Renner was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2015 to 2024, including two years as House Speaker from 2022 to 2024. He announced his run for governor in September 2025.
He thanked the FOP for its endorsement.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Florida Fraternal Order of Police," Renner said. "Florida's law enforcement officers put themselves on the line every day to protect our communities. As Governor, I will continue to back law enforcement, fight crime, and ensure our officers have the support they deserve."
Renner is in a Republican primary with U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, and businessman James Fishback. Notably, the FOP's endorsement breaks from a majority of Florida sheriffs backing Donalds, and several backing Collins in the race.
The primary is Aug. 18.
