An off-duty U.S. Secret Service officer was arrested in Miami, Fla., and charged with indecent exposure after allegedly masturbating in a hotel hallway, according to Miami-Dade County authorities.
In a statement issued by the chief of the Secret Service's uniformed division, Richard Macauley confirmed that the officer, identified as John Spillman, 33, was placed on administrative leave, NBC News reported.
"We are aware of the arrest of an off-duty Secret Service officer by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office," Macauley asserted. "The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel."
"This agency takes these matters with the utmost seriousness," Macauley added.
Chief Macauley also affirmed that Spillman would remain on leave "pending the results of this criminal matter and a complete and thorough internal investigation."
According to CNBC, Spillman had worked hours prior to his arrest as part of an exterior security screening for President Donald Trump’s appearance at the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour’s Cadillac Championship, held at Trump National Doral.
Details of The Incident
The incident, first reported by Fox and ABC affiliate WSVN, took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center on May 3, 2026, according to a report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
The report states that law enforcement arrived at the hotel in response to a call about a man who was naked on the sixth floor. When authorities arrived, they found Spillman “masturbating at the end of the hallway.”
Following Spillman’s detainment, a woman stepped out of a nearby room and informed officers that Spillman followed her upstairs from the hotel lobby.
“The victim advised they immediately entered their room because she was in fear for” her life, the report states. “The victim saw the defendant masturbating next to their hotel room.”
Hotel security also alleged to have seen Spillman masturbating, according to the report.
A hearing for Spillman is scheduled for May 27, 2026.
