As the White House continues to search for viable congressional candidates to shore up and bolster the thin Republican majority in the U.S. Congress, Florida State Rep. Kevin Steele (R) has filed to run against Democrat Rep. Cathy Castor in the Tampa-centric 14th Congressional District.
Rep. Steele, like many others, has been contemplating running for Congress since Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law the newly-drawn congressional maps that the Republican-led state legislature recently passed.
"I filed. 14," stated Rep. Steele in a text to The Floridian late Thursday night.
“Kathy Castor has been there 20 years and has done absolutely nothing for Americans. She has been nothing more than a Nancy Pelosi puppet,” said Steele in a statement to The Floridian. “We need America first individuals who bring a business mindset to Congress.”
And just like that, Rep. Steele has put himself in pole position in the Republican congressional primary and is expected to self-fund his candidacy with up to $5 million.
Steele previously filed to run for Florida's Chief Financial Officer (CFO)but backed down.
