Wilton Simpson Launches Run for Second Term as Agricultural Commissioner

Florida Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson announced his re-election campaign for commissioner on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Simpson has been AG Commissioner since January 2023. His current first term ends in January 2027.

And he's already stacking up endorsements from Florida sheriffs.

"Our Florida Sheriffs lead the men and women who serve and protect our families across the state and I could not be more honored to have their trust and their support," Simpson wrote on social media. "Now is not the time to roll the dice on the safety and security of our food supply chain. The Department of Agriculture serves on the front lines in that fight, and I am proud to serve alongside the thousands of hard working farmers and ranchers whose life’s work is to feed Florida."

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd also shared a statement backing Simpson.

“Wilton Simpson tackles our state’s challenges like only a farmer, a father and a businessman could. With innovation, compassion and efficiency, he stands on the front lines of so many critical and immediate needs Floridians face," Judd wrote.

"Wilton seamlessly balances the safety of our food supply chain, his own law enforcement team and wildfire threats during record droughts," Judd continued. "With an eye on the next generation of Floridians, Wilton remains focused on conserving Florida’s land and natural resources while always ensuring our young people have access to real opportunities. He does all of this and so much more because he understands how they impact law enforcement’s ability to keep our state safe."

Florida's agricultural commissioner is the head of the state's agricultural industry, including regulation and support. The commissioner also ensures food safety, manages state forests, and oversees consumer services, among other responsibilities.

Simpson, a longtime farmer and entrepreneur, previously served in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2022, including as President from 2020 to 2022. He was also considered a candidate for Florida governor but never announced.
