FireWatch Magazine, a veteran-owned publication out of Tampa, announced its endorsement of Lt. Gov. Jay Collins for Florida governor by praising his leadership as a public servant through a release this week.
“This is not the time for experimentation or political ambition,” FireWatch CEO Sarah Williams said. “This is the time for proven leadership. Jay Collins understands what’s at stake because he’s lived a life of consequence, not comfort."
FireWatch Magazine aims to empower "America’s service members, first responders, and engaged patriotic citizens" to essential resources and support networks. They include mental health, job transition support, family assistance programs, and other measures.
Lt. Gov. Collins served in the U.S. Army Special Forces for over two decades. His accolades include earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan.
“Jay Collins is not a career politician chasing headlines,” Firewatch Magazine stated. “He is a warrior, a leader, and a man who has already proven, under the most extreme conditions, what it means to fight for others. Florida doesn’t need another talker. Florida needs a fighter. That’s Jay Collins.”
Lt. Gov. Collins, who's running to replace Gov. Ron DeSantis, notably thanked the governor for his leadership during his two terms.
"I’m running for Governor to protect the legacy that Governor Ron DeSantis built over the last eight years,” Collins said. “As Lieutenant Governor, I stood proudly next to Governor DeSantis during crises and non-stop attacks from the far left. We need real leaders who care more about our families and communities, not about how many social media likes they will get."
"I have led men into combat. I have survived countless wounds, and I came back even stronger and continued serving my country as a decorated Green Beret. I know what it means to fight the tough battles, and I am Day One Ready to fight for Florida as your next governor," Collins added.
Collins is in a Republican primary with U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and businessman James Fishback.
The primary is Aug. 18.
