We told you it was going to happen, and now Sydney Gruters has officially announced her congressional candidacy in Florida's 16th District to replace retiring Congressman Vern Buchanan (R).
After receiving the endorsement of President Donald Trump, Mrs. Gruters has announced that she will, in fact, be seeking the Republican congressional nomination for Rep. Buchanan's seat.
“As a working mother of three, I see firsthand how much pressure rising prices are putting on families across Southwest Florida,” said Gruters. “From groceries and gas to housing and insurance, too many families, seniors, and veterans are being stretched thin. I’m running for Congress to protect our conservative values, fight for the people of this district, and give them a strong voice in Washington."
In addition to receiving President Trump's "Complete and Total Endorsement," Gruters has also garnered the support of the pro-women Maggie's List political action committee.
“Sydney Gruters has proven her mettle by working on the frontline for congressional members in the past as well as her community involvement with various causes, including New College Foundation,” said Maggie’s List Chairman Sandra Mortham. “She will be the People’s Congresswoman, making sure that she represents her constituents first and foremost. I am excited to endorse Sydney for this congressional office.”
“I’ve spent my career helping people solve problems and get results,” Gruters also said. “Southwest Florida deserves a representative who understands this community, shares its values, and will fight every day to lower the cost of living, expand opportunity, and build a stronger future for our families.”
The Trump endorsement in any Republican primary race is considered the Holy Grail of endorsements and can also be considered to be the kiss of death to the field of candidates who don't receive it.
Florida's primary election will take place on August 18.
