U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) has fired back at fellow GOP Texas Congressman Brandon Gill over his remarks on the Dignity for Immigrants while Guarding our Nation to Ignite and Deliver the American Dream Act (DIGNIDAD).

“The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and would constitute a terrible betrayal of our voters,” Rep. Gill claimed in a post on X.

In response via X, Congresswoman Salazar wrote, “READ. THE. BILL. BEFORE. YOU. OPEN. YOUR. MOUTH.” “Calling the DIGNITY Act 'amnesty' isn’t just wrong. It’s a deliberate distortion and it exposes just how little you know about the bill,” Rep. Salazar countered.

Introduced in July 2025 by Reps. Salazar and Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), the bipartisan proposal seeks to overhaul U.S. immigration by increasing border security while providing a multi-year path to legal status for undocumented immigrants who arrived before 2021.

“This is enforcement first: zero tolerance for criminals, permanent border security, and hard, earned requirements to step forward and face the law, so American workers are protected, not undercut,” Rep. Salazar continued.

“Maria, your ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ would give legal status to over 10 million illegal aliens. It’s rank amnesty, and everybody knows it,” Congressman Gill replied in a subsequent post. “I want dignity for Americans - the people whose interests we represent - not illegal aliens. That means doing what we said we’d do: mass deportations.”

Congresswoman Salazar fired back at Rep. Gill with “facts” in a multi-post thread outlining how the legislation will work if passed.

“The DIGNITY Act removes ALL criminal illegal aliens and recent arrivals, and it shuts down future illegal immigration once and for all,” Rep. Salazar affirmed.

In the thread, Congresswoman Salazar expressed that mass deportations lead to a higher cost of living and lower quality of life for American families. Rep. Salazar also revealed that the bill reduces the Federal deficit, will not cost taxpayer funds, and invests $70 billion in the government’s workforce.
