Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) is standing with President Donald Trump as the threatened deadline for Iran to reach an agreement grows closer.
Trump announced that if the Iranian regime does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday, April 7th at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time, the bombing campaign will shift to targeting infrastructure such as power plants and bridges.
"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again," he warned. "I donāt want that to happen, but it probably will."
In response, Iran has reportedly directed inhabitants to form human shields around key areas, announcing that "More than 14 million brave Iranians have so far declared their readiness to sacrifice their lives to defend Iran. I have also sacrificed my life for Iran, I am and I will continue to do so."
Discussing the conflict in a recent appearance on Fox Business'sĀ Mornings with Maria, Rep. Gimenez said, "I think we have to finish the job." "Iran has demonstrated to the world why a nuclear-armed Iran is an untenable Iran. Look what they are doing to the Strait of Hormuz. Look at how they are threatening all of their neighbors right now. Can you imagine if they had a nuclear weapon and they feel invulnerable?" he added.
He stated that the Iranian regime "has to go" and that he "supports what the President is doing."
"Iran is like a cancer, and sometimes the cure to cancer hurts, but the cancer has to be eliminated, and that cancer is Iran."
In mid-March, Gimenez joined Representative Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) in condemning the Iranian regime's execution of 19-year-old wrestling champion Saleh Mohammadi for protesting against the government.
"Young people. Students. Athletes. Brave voices whose only 'crime' was daring to think freely," Rep. Salazar expressed. "A regime that fears its own people will always choose brutality to survive."
