Former Army Lieutenant Colonel and Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council, Alex Vindman, who is a Democratic challenger to Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL), has raised a whopping $8 million in his campaign for Senator in the first quarter (Q1).

Vindman, who played a key role in the first impeachment of President Donald Trump in 2019, announced his candidacy in late January, and now that it's already mid-April, that $8 million is nothing to sniff at, especially considering Sen. Moody has only raised $2.6 million, of which Vindman claims approximately $500,000 came from corporate political action committees (PACs), while he has taken none.

On top of that, a recent poll puts the two in an effective tie, showing his momentum.

He quickly beat out Jennifer Jenkins, a former Brevard County School Board member, who dropped out of the Democratic primary just two days after Vindman announced and endorsed him, writing on X, "I'm so proud of this campaign and the fight we started. Florida is too important to stay divided, which is why I've decided to step aside and proudly endorse @AVindman for U.S. Senate."

"Floridians are being crushed by the skyrocketing cost of gas, groceries, and housing – and they know career politicians like Ashley Moody are to blame," Vindman said in a statement. "Ashley Moody has spent her time in Washington cozying up to lobbyists and special interests, trading millions of dollars of stock, and selling out hardworking Floridians who are facing an affordability crisis."

The former Lt. Colonel further emphasized that his impressive war chest numbers "prove that our campaign is being fueled by grassroots supporters who are fed up with the rampant corruption in D.C. and rising costs, while Moody's campaign is bankrolled by the political elite."

Vindman still has to face State Representative Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville) in the Democratic Senate Primary, which will be on August 18th, before he formally squares up against Moody.

  1. Just what Florida doesn’t need. Another carpetbagger. It would be nice if the demo’s could at least find a candidate that actually lives here not a Johnny come lately.

  2. I guess you missed it at the verrrrrry bottom of the article, but Angie Nixon is running vs. Vindmann and she is a local and a Dem…FYI.
