In a recent appearance on Real America's Voice's Just the News, Republican candidate for Congressional District 23 George Moraitis lauded President Donald Trump's "fresh perspective" on dealing with Cuba, saying the president is "not going to keep coddling this in our hemisphere."
President Trump recently warned that the Cuban regime is "at the end of the line" and that a "great change" is coming to the island during the first Shield of the Americas Summit held over the weekend. His comments came after he ordered a blockade of oil to Cuba in hopes of accelerating the regime's demise.
Moraitis concurs with the President, saying the Cuban people are "ready for freedom" and "are definitely excited for the opportunity to turn over the regime," with some Cubans allegedly calling for Trump to "finish the job" and target the country "next," in reference to the January capture of Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro and the ongoing strikes in Iran.
With Trump's tougher policies, as Moraitis says, he brings a "fresh perspective to a lot of things that seemed in transit, like we always thought Cuba would just go on forever as a communist country."
Moraitis noted that diplomacy under Presidents Obama and Biden only served to "perpetuate the oppression," and thus, under Trump, "we are not going to keep coddling this in our hemisphere."
Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) previously suggested that Cuba is indeed "next" on the international chopping block, saying, "You know, they should take heed of what President Trump said about Iran. They've said, Hey, you need to come to the negotiating table." "He said the same thing about Cuba. If I were the Cuban leaders, I would take notice. This is a president of action, not just of words," Rep. Gimenez concluded, calling the Cuban regime "more erratic than ever."
