Democrat Brian Nathan upset Republican Josie Tomkow to win the Senate District 14 special election on Tuesday night.

Below is the result with 95% of ballots reporting (per270towin)

Brian Nathan - 50.3%

Josie Tomkow - 49.8%

Turnout was under 30%, according to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections.

Nathan, a union leader and Navy Veteran, is local to the area, having graduated from Hillsborough Community College and later from the University of Tampa. Tomkow is a seventh-generation Floridian and cattle rancher.

Nathan replaces Republican Jay Collins, who resigned from the seat to become lieutenant governor in August 2025. Collins won the seat by just over 9 points in 2022.

SD 14 is located in Hillsborough County, including major portions of Tampa and the county's suburbs. Notably, President Donald Trump won SD 14 by 7 points over Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.

The seat will be up again in the November midterms.
