Florida Gas Prices Down 17 Cents Compared to 2025, Dwarf California's $4.59

Arguably just another win for Florida on California

Floridians enjoying the long Presidents' Day weekend can feel pretty good at the pump compared to this date last year, according to AAA.

As of Monday, Feb. 16, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Sunshine State was $2.86, down 17 cents from 2025. However, the price was up a tad from a week ago, when it was $2.85, and a month ago, when it was $2.82.

All in all, Florida drivers are probably pretty happy with the sunshine and warm weather in most of the state, especially with what many of us went through last month. Some out-of-state drivers are probably just as happy, given their own past cold weather and historic gas prices.

In places like New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, gas prices were $2.99, $2.94, and $2.90 respectivelly on Feb. 16, all higher than Florida's average. Not bad, but when combined with the bitter cold temperatures the northeast just went through, it's never fun standing out there, trust me on that one.

And while warmer, California is a stone-cold punch to the face. As of Monday, Californians were paying a whopping $4.59. Notably, California is one of two states in the country with gas prices above four dollars, the other being Hawaii.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is always up to jab at California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and I'm sure this is no different. That also might pick up if the two run for president in 2028, with Gov. DeSantis likely having the upper hand on this front.

For what it's worth, the national average was $2.93.

But wherever you are, and still are a penny saver, Florida's westernmost panhandle continues to be your best bet for cheap gas.

Oklaloosa County had the lowest price at $2.63. Much of the surrounding area, including Escambia, Walton, and Santa Rosa counties, all had gas under $2.75.

In Leon County, home to Tallahassee, gas was $2.76.

Other metropolitan counties were a bit more expensive. Duval County (Jacksonville) had a price of $2.85, Hillsborough County (Tampa) had a price of $2.86, and Orange County (Orlando) had a price of $2.88.

South Florida, often so, continues to be a bit more of a pain. In Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach) and Miami-Dade County (Miami), gas prices were above three dollars. Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) was a bit luckier, with prices at a reasonable $2.90.

Monroe County (Florida Keys) had the highest price in the state at $3.17. Still a deal wherever you are compared to the Golden State, and Gov. DeSantis would probably tell you his beaches are better than Malibu Beach anyway.
