WASHINGTON, D.C.—During a press conference of the No Sharia Law House Caucus, Florida Rep. Cory Mills expressed his unwavering opposition to the implementation of Sharia Law over American laws, in particularly the U.S. Constitution.
“But freedom of religion does not mean freedom to impose a parallel legal system or undermine constitutional governance. No ideology religious or otherwise stands above the American law,” said Rep. Mills
"I’ve spent many years both in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Muslim countries. In many cases, they cannot assimilate to the rule of law and our constitutional republic. They don’t want to, and you’re see that when you go through Europe, and you’re seeing that when you go through other parts of the world.
The United States will not follow the path to appeasement like we see in Europe. Instead ,we will defend Western Civilization, our constitutional governance, and the freedoms generations of Americans have fought and died to protect.
I want to stress that America is not a playground for radicalized ideologies that are contrary to our constitution. That constitutional framework is what protects liberty dignity and opportunity.
If you look at places where Sharia has been implemented. it has shown to not be compatible with freedoms or equality— key tenets of the United States.
This is not an attack on personal faith our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and that freedom is sacred.
But freedom of religion does not mean freedom to impose a parallel legal system or undermine constitutional governance. No ideology religious or otherwise stands above the American law.”
