The Capitol Christmas tree lighting takes place this week, and arguably the most important delegate has arrived to attend the occasion -- Rep. Nutmeg (R-NP).
If you're not familiar with Rep. Nutmeg, she represents the North Pole and is the Chairwoman of the Elf Caucus. Her schedule has been entirely booked with responding to her constituents' concerns regarding toy production and sleigh traffic among other pressing issues. This week, however, she's in the Capitol, welcoming the holiday season and spending time with elected officials.
While Republicans and Democrats are having a hard time seeing eye to eye on issues, Rep. Nutmeg reminded them over the weekend that "Thanksgiving is over, which means no one can argue anymore."
This means there are no grinches allowed in Washington.
The Capitol Christmas tree lighting will take place on December 2nd at 5:00 P.M. ET on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building.
Each year, the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) chooses the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree. This year, the AOC chose a 53-foot "Silver Belle," which is a Red Fir.
The tree, which is accompanied by police escort, was transported in mid-November from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada -- a significantly shorter trip than Rep. Nutmeg's venture to the Capitol from the North Pole.
According to the AOC, "the tree represents the people from the forest region and has become known as the People's Tree."
The U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was first placed in 1964, and the U.S. Forest Service has provided trees for the event since 1970.
Rep. Nutmeg's X account is run by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).
