Representative Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) has issued a statement in praise of President Donald Trump's "Warrior Dividend" Christmas bonus.
In honor of America's 250th anniversary this coming year, the Trump administration is set to issue a tax-free dividend of $1,776 to all U.S. servicemembers at the rank of colonel (or Navy Captain equivalent) or lower. However, Military.com says some details remain unclear.
Namely, they note that "no formal eligibility memo has been released; rank limits, duty status, and service dates may apply; and prior one-time payments often included cutoff dates or minimum service thresholds."
Additionally, there is no confirmation that members of the National Guard or National Reserve will be eligible for the bonus, and the one-time payment may require Congressional authorization.
Nevertheless, Rep. Patronis spoke positively of the gesture, noting that it means servicemembers stationed in Florida will receive $188 million, and $72 million in his Congressional district.
"I just left the White House, where I got to thank President Trump for the warrior dividend," Rep. Patronis said in a brief address. "$1,776 for our brave men and women in uniform is tax-free. In the state of Florida, that's $188 million. In Congressional District One, that's over $72 million to say thank you. Thank you for fighting for our freedom. Thank you for fighting for our country. And most importantly, thank you, President Trump. And thank you, Secretary Peter Hegseth. God bless."
The "Warrior Dividend" comes on the heels of the final passage of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a 4% pay raise for all service members.
Representative Scott Franklin (R-FL) was one of several Republicans who lauded the bill, saying that in addition to the pay raise, "It enhances readiness while revitalizing American shipbuilding and defense manufacturing to reduce dependence on foreign supply chains."
"Defending our nation is too important for anything less than smart, strategic investment that strengthens deterrence, preserves overmatch, and sustains our long-term military advantage. With this NDAA, America remains the world's premier fighting force," Rep. Franklin concluded.
