Over the weekend, President Donald Trump made the biggest announcement of the Miami mayoral race by endorsing Emilio Gonzalez for Miami Mayor. While Gonzalez has picked up several other endorsements, the president's nod is the most significant boost to his campaign in the closing weeks of the race.
"It is my great honor to endorse Emilio T. Gonzalez to be the next Mayor of the Beautiful City of Miami, Florida," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president praised Gonzalez for his accomplishments in the city while assuring voters of his commitment to public safety. Several former South Florida law enforcement officials have also backed Gonzalez in his bid.
"A very successful Businessman, Civic Leader, former CEO of Miami International Airport, and former City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Miami, Emilio has dedicated his life to serving his community," Trump continued. "As the former Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and a brave U.S. Army Veteran, Emilio strongly supports our incredible law enforcement, Military, and Veterans, and knows the Wisdom and Courage it takes to ensure LAW AND ORDER."
Trump asserted that Gonzalez would live up to his campaign promises, which he has outlined over the past several months.
"As Miami's next mayor, he will fight tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advance MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy Dominance, Keep our now very secure border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," Trump wrote. "Emilio T. Gonzalez has my complete and total endorsement. MIAMI. Early voting is December 5th through December 7th, and Election Day is December 9th. GET OUT AND VOTE FOR EMILIO - HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"
Gonzalez thanked Trump for his endorsement on X.
"Thank you President @realDonaldTrump for your endorsement," Gonzalez wrote. "Miami’s future is on the line, and your support sends a powerful message that our city deserves strong, common-sense leadership."
Gonzalez is facing off against former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins after neither candidate received 50% of the vote on Nov. 4. The winner will succeed Mayor Francis Suarez, who is term-limited.
