New Yorkers have voted for self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani to be the next mayor of New York City, signaling that the Democratic Party continues to support Democratic Socialism.

Moments before Fox News called the mayoral race for Mamdani, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on the news network's "Hannity" program, where he told host Sean Hannity that voters in New York shot themselves in the foot on election night.

"It's an incredible act of ballistic podiatry, shooting yourself in the foot by New York City voters," said Gov. DeSantis. "This is a guy who does embrace Marxist economics."

Gov. DeSantis also noted that Mamdani never expressed sympathy for the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks and does not support law enforcement.

Florida Republicans also chimed in on the election results in New York City, warning of the historical footprint of Socialism and Communism.

“Mamdani is now the face of the Democrat Party. Florida Democrat Party Chair Nikki Fried may not realize it yet, but she has a new boss — and if history tells us anything about socialists and communists, it’s that they rarely surrender power willingly,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

Chairman Evans continued, asserting that Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried wants to bring Mamdani-like Socialism to Florida.

“It’s tragic that the world’s capital of business and finance will now be led by someone who openly talks about ‘seizing the means of production.’ And make no mistake — the same radical agenda Mamdani is pushing in New York is exactly what Nikki Fried and Florida Democrats want to bring here. Meanwhile in Florida, we know freedom, limited government, fewer regulations, and low taxes are the path to prosperity. That’s why Florida wins — and will continue to win.”

Democrats won big in blue states like New Jersey and Virginia. Expect Democrats to champion does election night victories in hope to create momentum going into the 2026 midterm elections.
