Florida Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz released a statement defending the Democratic Party’s future U.S. healthcare plans, while claiming the Republican Party is “lying.”

“Democrats want to lower healthcare costs for working Americans,” she stated.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz continues, citing how “Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for health care tax credits, and they are not eligible for comprehensive Medicaid coverage."

"It is already against federal law,” argued Wasserman Schultz, adding, “[Republicans] are lying. Not today, not last month, not tomorrow, not last year. Democrats aren't proposing to change either of those prohibitions. So this is baloney. When you don't have an argument to justify your really terrible position, you start lying so that you can distract people.”

Florida Republican Congressman Randy Fine released a commentary on the Orlando Sentinel where he accused the Democratic Party of shutting down the government to “fight for healthcare funding for illegal immigrants.”

“On Tuesday, Democrats voted to shut down the federal government because they were fighting for healthcare funding for illegal immigrants. The Democrats are specifically demanding to reimpose a nearly $200 billion burden on taxpayers by repealing six provisions from the Working Families Tax Cuts Act that ended healthcare subsidies to illegal immigrants.” Rep. Fine said.

Fine argues that the Republican Party is in the right and “acted responsibly” by agreeing to pass a “nonpartisan continuing resolution to keep the government open,” and as a result of the Democrats’ demands, “the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has ground to a halt.”

“Republicans have acted responsibly. We passed a clean, nonpartisan continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open. Republicans voted to protect flood insurance, Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and food assistance for families. Democrats have supported this type of legislation before. In fact, it is the same kind of short-term measure Democrats supported 13 times under Joe Biden.” Fine added.
