President Donald Trump has endorsed Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier in his election bid as the state's chief legal officer next November. Uthmeier, seeking a full term as a Republican, was appointed to the seat by Gov. Ron DeSantis in January after the resignation of Ashley Moody.
"Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is doing a GREAT job for the Sunshine State, which I won BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024. James is an America First Warrior who is a true champion for 'MAGA.' He is THE MAN behind ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ, and argued strongly at the United States Supreme Court in defense of my Executive Power to fire Deep State bureaucrats," Trump shared on Truth Social.
Adding to his endorsement, Trump also praised Uthmeier for his other endeavors as attorney general, including arresting child predators and fighting trafficking. Uthmeier charged 230 suspects in a seven-day human trafficking operation just last month.
"Under James’ fearless leadership, over 1,000 CRIMINAL PEDOPHILES have been arrested, missing children have been SAVED, and our Great Members of Law Enforcement have been empowered to do their jobs and KEEP FLORIDA SAFE," Trump added.
Uthmeier is the only major Republican currently in the race, giving him a likely path right to the general election. Looking to upend his election hopes include Democrat Jose Javier Rodriguez, a former Florida State Senator and assistant secretary for employment and training under the Biden administration.
However, Trump's endorsement likely increases Uthmeier's chances of returning to his post in a state already dominated by Republicans.
Trump won Florida by 13 points in his return to the White House over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, and he remains popular in the Sunshine State.
"In his next term, James will continue to work tirelessly to Ensure Law and Order, uphold our Constitutional Rights, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment," Trump continued in his Truth Social post. "James Uthmeier is a Strong Conservative Fighter and Prosecutor, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!"
The Florida Attorney General election is on Nov. 3, 2026.
