Republican candidate Maria Zack edged out Bill Reicherter with nearly 53% of the vote to win the House District 90 Special Election primary this week. Reicherter received 47% of the vote with 2,679 votes cast.
The percentage was larger than the raw vote might indicate, with Zack clipping Reicherter by 159 votes.
"Congratulations to our Republican nominee for House District 90, Maria Zack. Onward to victory this December!" the Florida GOP shared on social media.
Zack moves on to face Democratic candidate Rob Long and NPA [No Party Affiliation] candidate Karen Yeh in the HD 90 Special General Election on Dec. 9.
HD 90 covers portions of coastal Palm Beach County, including Boynton Beach and Delray Beach. The seat became available after the death of Democrat Rep. Joe Casello in July.
Notably, Casello beat Reicherter in the HD 90 general election by nearly 14 points in 2024. The margin likely gives Long the edge heading into December's election.
Zack is a longtime lobbyist with a background in government affairs, business, and community programs. She also founded The Strollo Group, a consulting firm with clients such as Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has endorsed her for the seat, along with Florida Right to Life. Zack lists eliminating property taxes, stopping illegal immigration, backing law enforcement, and supporting veterans as some of her top priorities.
Her opponent, Long, has been a Delray Beach Commissioner since 2023. Casello, who was term-limited, endorsed Long for the seat in February before his passing.
Senate Minority Leader Lori Berman (D-Boca Raton) has also endorsed Long, as well as Sen. Tina Polsky (D-Boca Raton), Rep. Jervonte "Tae" Edmonds (D-West Palm Beach), Rep. Kelly Skidmore (D-Boca Raton), Rep. Debra Tendrich (D-Lake Worth), and more.
On the commission, Long has prioritized public safety, sustainable development, environmental initiatives, and government transparency. He also indicated support for small businesses and public education if elected to the House.
