Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blaise Inogoglia announced that his Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight has uncovered $1 billion in wasteful and excessive spending by counties and cities across the state.
Ingoglia, who became CFO in July, began his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) style tour in early August. He detailed his findings in an X post this week, while promising there would be more to come in the near future.
- Seminole County ($48 million)
- Alachua County ($84 million)
- Broward County ($189 million)
- Orange County ($199 million)
- Hillsborough County ($278 million)
"Under our FAFO efforts we have already identified $1 Billion in wasteful, excessive spending. That number continues to grow as we travel the state exposing big government budgets that waste your tax dollars," Ingoglia wrote. "What county or city is up next this week?? Stay tuned."
Known as the state's "conservative pitbull," Ingoglia was in Jacksonville earlier this month to highlight the city's wasteful and excessive spending under Mayor Donna Deegan. There, Ingoglia criticized Deegan for spending $75,000 on a hologram depicting her welcoming visitors to Jacksonville International Airport.
"This is $75,000 of waste, fraud, and abuse. This is $75,000 that could have gone out to law enforcement raises, could have helped repair roads," Ingoglia exclaimed. "There's a lot of money that this money could have been used for."
Ingoglia also criticized the City of Orlando (Orange County) for apparently paying $70,000 for its employees to learn hot yoga.
Just weeks into the job, Ingoglia slammed Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava for allegedly being way over budget despite apparent growing revenues.
".@MayorDaniella thinks removing waste, fraud and abuse from local government and offering property tax relief is “politically driven," Ingoglia said at the time. "What a shame that the voters of Miami-Dade don’t have a mayor that actually cares about them."
While Ingoglia has already announced his candidacy for a full term as CFO, having raised a significant amount of money to do so, it doesn't sound like he'll be taking a break on his Florida DOGE tour anytime soon.
Cities and counties should be aware, or face a knock on their doors from Ingoglia sooner or later.
