Following the lead of Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, and Congressman Byron Donalds, The Floridian reports that they support legislation mandating the display or inscription of the national motto, "In God we Trust," in every federal building.
Rep. Donalds, who has received President Donald Trump's endorsement in his 2026 gubernatorial race, also believes that the national motto should be displayed on state buildings.
"In God We Trust" on all federal buildings is long overdue. In Florida's Constitution, we are grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty. That should be reflected in all state buildings," stated Rep. Donalds in response.
"The 'In God We Trust Act' will ensure that the federal government—as well as the American people for whom it works—never forgets the ultimate source of the liberty and prosperity this country enjoys. As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, this bill would restore faith to its rightful place in the halls of government," Sen. Hawley said.
If the legislative measure passes both chambers of Congress, it will then be sent to President Trump for his signature.
