Florida Congressman Byron Donalds (R) criticized European countries for their lax policies on immigration and heightened restrictions on speech and expression.
Rep. Donalds expressed his concern with the current political climate in Western Europe, claiming that "political correctness is killing Europe.” “Speech is monitored/criminalized, invasions of illegal aliens go unchecked, and national pride & flags are deemed offensive,” he warned.
“This is insanity. In the US, we must fight to maintain our freedoms, liberties, & put the AMERICAN PEOPLE FIRST,” Donalds concluded on social media.
The congressman’s comments come after President Donald Trump warned that Europe “is in trouble” due to adhering to “political correctness.”
“Europe is in serious trouble," the president exclaimed. "They've been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody's ever seen before. Illegal aliens are pouring into Europe, and nobody's doing anything to change it to get them out. It's not sustainable because they choose to be politically correct.”
Trump specifically claims that illegal Muslim immigrants are “going to be the death of Western Europe” due to said immigrants' refusal to assimilate into Western culture.
“Now they want to go to Sharia law, but you're in a different country. You can't do that. Both the immigration and the suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe. If something is not done immediately, they cannot. This cannot be sustained,” Trump added.
European countries have faced escalating tensions as Muslim immigrants move to the UK, France, Germany, and other nations, while the EU enforces its “Digital Services Act,” which many view as a threat to freedom of speech.
According to The Hill, the Digital Services Act was passed in 2022 but wasn't "fully in force as of last year," and “the law is sold as a way to create a safer digital space.” In practice, it hands the European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, sweeping powers to dictate what the world can say, read, and share online.”
Many are claiming that this law will lead to the silencing of local voices as they criticize Europe’s increasing intake of foreign immigrants who refuse to assimilate into the country’s local culture.
