Florida Democrat Representative Maxwell Frost released a statement slamming President Donald Trump over weak job market growth following a report on stagnant job availability.

“The worst jobs report in 4+ years, brought to you by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans,” Frost said.

The report released by NBC detailed how the U.S. job market was weak in July, and how previous months were worse than previously thought.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. added only 73,000 new jobs in July, and extensive revisions to the previous two months now indicate that the job market is considerably worse.

The unemployment rate in July plateaued at 4.2%, but more people have left the workforce, according to the report. Payrolls have now averaged just 35,000 over the last three months. The weakest pace of job growth since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

The report comes after President Trump implemented controversial aggressive tariff policies to bring jobs back to the U.S. a move many experts criticize as a tax on consumers.

Despite higher costs, the U.S. economy seemed to stabilize because of presumed strong job creation, but the updated reports have heavily shifted that narrative. The updates, combined with July’s weak report, paint a starkly different picture of the U.S. economy, which only added 19,000 jobs in May and June, rather than the 291,000 jobs the reports had initially found.

The Federal Reserve voted to keep interest rates steady in response to what Fed Chairman Jerome Powell described as a solid jobs market. That pushed the odds of the next interest rate cut being something deeply desired by the Trump administration.

However, following the release of the jobs report, opinion has shifted, and President Trump has called upon the governors of the Fed to usurp Powell, over not cutting those short-term interest rates.
